The Cisco Security Certification Pathway

How the three certifications connect and what each one unlocks in the Cisco career ladder.

From CCST to CCIE Security

CCST Cybersecurity is the entry point — no prerequisites, $125 exam fee, available in 7 languages, and valid permanently. It feeds directly into the Cisco CyberOps Associate track (200-201 CBROPS) for candidates pursuing the security operations path.

SCOR 350-701 is the professional-level core exam. Passing it earns the Cisco Certified Specialist - Security Core credential. Combining SCOR with one concentration exam earns the full CCNP Security certification. SCOR also serves as the qualifying (written) exam required before scheduling the CCIE Security lab.

CCIE Security Lab is the expert-level eight-hour hands-on exam. It is one of the most respected and difficult certifications in the global IT industry. Fewer than 10,000 active CCIE Security holders exist worldwide.

SCOR Domain Weights

The 350-701 SCOR exam blueprint assigns these weights across six domains — use them to prioritize your study time:

Network Security — 20% (IPS/firewall, NetFlow, Layer 2 security, AAA, VPNs)

Securing the Cloud — 15% (cloud models, DevSecOps, content security, Umbrella)

Content Security — 10% (email security, web security, ESA, WSA)

Endpoint Protection and Detection — 15% (EPP, EDR, antimalware, MFA, MDM)

Secure Network Access, Visibility, and Enforcement — 15% (ISE, 802.1X, CoA, telemetry)

CCIE Security Lab — Domain Weights (v6.1)

The eight-hour CCIE Security lab v6.1 weights are critical for time allocation across the two modules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Cisco security certifications and these free practice tests.

Does passing SCOR 350-701 alone earn me CCNP Security?
+
Passing SCOR 350-701 alone earns the Cisco Certified Specialist - Security Core credential. To achieve the full CCNP Security certification, you must also pass one concentration exam from Cisco's approved list — covering specialized areas such as firewall (300-710 SNCF), VPN (300-730 SVPN), email security (300-720 SESA), web security (300-725 SWSA), wireless security (300-735 SAUTO), or security operations (300-715 SISE).
What is the relationship between SCOR and the CCIE Security lab?
+
The SCOR 350-701 serves as the qualifying (written) exam for the CCIE Security certification. Passing SCOR is a mandatory prerequisite before you can schedule the CCIE Security lab. The first lab attempt must be made within 18 months of passing SCOR, and all subsequent attempts must be completed within 3 years of the original SCOR pass date. Passing the CCIE Security lab automatically renews your CCNP Security as well.
Can I take the CCIE Security Lab exam remotely?
+
No. The CCIE Security Lab is only available at Cisco-designated lab facilities worldwide — it cannot be taken via remote proctoring. Cisco maintains lab locations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, China, Japan, Australia, and other countries. Candidates must travel to a designated Cisco lab facility to sit the exam. Locations and availability are confirmed through Cisco's official certification scheduling portal.
How many free practice tests are available for each Cisco exam?
+
CCST Cybersecurity: 10 tests (5 mixed-set + 5 domain-wise), 200 questions, ~22 minutes per test. SCOR 350-701: 10 tests (5 mixed-set + 5 domain-wise), 200 questions, ~27 minutes per test. CCIE Security Lab: 10 tests (5 mixed-set + 5 domain-wise), 200 questions, ~30 minutes per test. All 30 tests are completely free — no login or subscription required.
What is the CCIE Security Lab exam structure?
+
The CCIE Security Lab v6.1 is an eight-hour exam split into two modules. Module 1 — Design (3 hours): scenario-based design questions without device access. Backward navigation is disabled and points are hidden. Module 2 — Deploy, Operate & Optimize (5 hours): fully hands-on with live Cisco equipment. Backward navigation is enabled and points are visible as you progress. The exam fee is approximately $1,600 USD per attempt and is available only at Cisco-designated lab facilities — not via remote proctoring.
