Architecture decisions, not admin trivia
The current SC-100 outline expects candidates to translate business and risk requirements into end-to-end security architecture. Microsoft calls out identity and access, platform protection, security operations, data and AI security, application security, and hybrid or multicloud infrastructure.
The practice bank follows that level. Questions ask you to design, evaluate, prioritize, or recommend an architecture. Portal click paths, command syntax and licensing trivia are deliberately kept out of the question bank.
Microsoft requires one qualifying associate certification alongside SC-100 for the Cybersecurity Architect Expert credential: Identity and Access Administrator Associate, Security Operations Analyst Associate, or Cloud and AI Security Engineer Associate.
Built to make the architecture trade-offs visible
Forty questions is enough space to test the whole blueprint without turning the test into a speed drill. The 100-minute window leaves room for the multi-constraint scenarios SC-100 is built around.
How it is built
- 40 questions per practice test
- 9 / 11 / 11 / 9 split across the four skill areas
- 6 easy, 20 medium and 14 hard questions
- At least 30 situational architecture scenarios
- Current Microsoft security terminology throughout
Under the clock
- 100-minute practice window
- 36 single-answer questions
- 4 clearly marked Select TWO questions
- Select TWO items score all-or-nothing
- No question depends on memorising invented limits or product trivia
What comes back
- Estimated practice score on the 1–1000 scale
- 700 used as the Microsoft passing benchmark
- Two-to-four-sentence explanation on every question
- The explanation resolves the right answer and the strongest distractor
- Same blueprint rules across all ten tests
Sample question from the practice bank
Four skill areas, fixed practice allocation
Microsoft publishes weight bands. Each practice test converts those bands into a repeatable 40-question form so one test can be compared with the next.
| SC-100 skill area | Microsoft weight | Questions per practice test |
|---|---|---|
| Design solutions that align with security best practices and priorities | 20–25% | 9 |
| Design security operations, identity, and compliance capabilities | 25–30% | 11 |
| Design security solutions for infrastructure | 25–30% | 11 |
| Design security solutions for applications and data | 20–25% | 9 |
Practice allocation per test: 9 + 11 + 11 + 9 = 40 questions.
