IAPP CIPT Practice Test
Use the free sets to find the part of the CIPT blueprint that still slows you down. Each mixed test has 20 questions on a roughly 33-minute clock, keeping the same question-to-time pace as the 90-question, 2.5-hour certification exam.
Mixed set — IAPP CIPT Practice Tests
Five short sets spread questions across the current CIPT Body of Knowledge. Use them for a quick benchmark before you start drilling one domain at a time.
Domain-Wise — IAPP CIPT Practice Tests
A mixed set tells you where the gap is. These five 20-question tests let you stay on that domain until the weak spots stop repeating.
Twenty questions finds the gap.
Ninety questions tests whether your pace holds.
The free sets are built for diagnosis and targeted practice. When you want a full run at the current exam length, move to the 90-question practice tests and work through the whole blueprint under a 150-minute clock.

How to use these tests
Short tests and full-length tests solve different problems. Use them in that order.
Benchmark
Take two mixed sets before heavy revision. Look for the domain that keeps costing you answers, not just the overall percentage.
Start Practice Test 1 →Drill the gap
Move to the domain-wise test that matches your weakest area. Go back to the Body of Knowledge after each miss and fix the underlying concept.
Review the domain tests →Dress rehearsal
Once your weak domains stop moving around, run a full 90-question test. The point is to find out whether you can stay accurate for the whole 150 minutes.

The current CIPT tests whether you can apply privacy and data-protection concepts to technology, products and services. The exam is based on the current CIPT Body of Knowledge.
What the CIPT covers
CIPT is the IAPP credential for professionals working where privacy meets technology. Its current Body of Knowledge covers the privacy technologist’s organizational role, responsible data handling, privacy risk management, privacy by design, and privacy engineering and governance.
The current Body of Knowledge is version 4.0.0, effective 1 September 2025. IAPP says the blueprint sets a minimum and maximum number of questions for each domain rather than fixed percentage weights.
Exam format
Questions: 90 multiple-choice questions.
Time: 2.5 hours, with a 15-minute break offered halfway through.
Question structure: Stand-alone and scenario-based items. Some questions require more than one correct response, and no partial credit is given on multi-select items.
Passing score: 300 or above on IAPP’s 100–500 reporting scale.
Exam price: US$550.
Delivery: Pearson VUE test center or OnVUE remote proctoring.
Registration and maintenance
Purchase window: The exam must be scheduled and completed within one year of purchase.
Study guidance: IAPP recommends at least 30 hours of preparation for each certification.
Retakes: After a failed attempt, a new exam can be purchased once results appear in MyIAPP. The next appointment cannot be sooner than seven days after the previous attempt.
Certification maintenance: A US$250 certification maintenance fee covers a certification term for nonmembers. IAPP membership includes this maintenance benefit.
IAPP CIPT domain ranges
The current blueprint uses question ranges. That matters: the exact mix can move within those limits from one exam form to another.
| Domain | Current topic | Questions on exam |
|---|---|---|
| Domain I | The privacy technologist’s role in the context of the organization | 15–19 |
| Domain II | Data collection, use, dissemination and destruction | 19–23 |
| Domain III | Privacy risk management | 17–21 |
| Domain IV | Privacy by design | 7–9 |
| Domain V | Privacy engineering and privacy governance | 9–11 |
How our practice tests are written
Current blueprint first. The mixed sets use the five-domain CIPT structure now in force. Domain II and Domain III carry the largest question ranges, so they deserve more attention than the smaller Privacy by Design domain.
Short tests keep the exam pace. Ninety questions in 150 minutes works out to about 1 minute 40 seconds per question. A 20-question set therefore lands at roughly 33 minutes.
The emphasis stays technical. Expect privacy risk models, data minimization, segregation, privacy-enhancing techniques, tracking and surveillance, AI-related privacy risk, privacy by design and engineering controls across the software life cycle.
Domain tests have one job. Use them after a mixed set exposes a weak area. They are there to make the gap obvious enough to fix.
IAPP CIPT exam preparation
Study strategy
Start from the Body of Knowledge. IAPP builds the certification exam from it, and the current version tells you both the scope and the question range for each domain.
Give Domain II and Domain III more time because they can account for the largest portions of the exam. Then work down to the smaller domains instead of dividing your study hours equally.
Keep translating privacy principles into system choices. CIPT questions are much easier when minimization, segregation, access control, data lineage and privacy engineering objectives feel like design decisions rather than definitions.
Test-taking strategy
Watch the clock without chasing it. At about 1 minute 40 seconds per question, one stubborn scenario can quietly consume the time you need later.
Multi-select items tell you exactly how many responses to choose. Pick that exact number. IAPP awards no partial credit when only part of the required set is correct.
The halfway break closes the first half once you submit it. Finish your review of those questions before moving into the second half.
Frequently asked questions
Find the gap for free. Then test the full 90.
Start with a 20-question mixed set. When the domain gaps are under control, move to a full-length test and see how your accuracy holds over the complete exam distance.
