About Check Point Certifications

Check Point Software Technologies is one of the world's leading network security vendors — its Next Generation Firewalls protect a significant portion of Fortune 100 and Global 500 companies.

The Check Point Certification Path

The Check Point certification ladder runs from CCSA (Security Administrator) through CCSE (Security Expert) and onward to CCSM (Security Master). CCSA is the entry point and is required before attempting CCSE. From CCSE, professionals can extend their certification through Check Point's Infinity Specialist Accreditation (ISA) exams, which each extend validity by one year and eventually qualify candidates for CCSM status.

Check Point certifications are version-tied — exam codes change with major product releases (R81.20, R82, etc.). The current active versions are CCSA 156-215.81/156-215.81.20 and CCSE 156-315.82. The R81.20 CCSE version retires in June 2026.

Who Should Take These Exams?

CCSA — Best for firewall administrators, network security engineers, and IT professionals who manage or support Check Point Quantum Security Gateway environments. Six months of hands-on Check Point experience is strongly recommended before attempting the exam.

CCSE — Best for senior security engineers, network architects, and administrators who design and maintain enterprise Check Point deployments — including high-availability configurations, multi-gateway VPN architectures, and upgrade and migration procedures. The exam is approximately 80% course content and 20% hands-on product experience.

CCSA Exam Topics — R81.20 Course Outline

The CCSA covers 10 topic areas from the official Check Point R81.20 training course. Security Policy Management and Policy Layers together carry the most weight at approximately 26% combined.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Check Point certifications and these free practice tests.

Do I need CCSA before taking the CCSE?
+
Yes. The CCSA certification is a required prerequisite for the CCSE exam. Importantly, the CCSA does not need to be currently active — an expired CCSA still satisfies the prerequisite. However, the CCSE itself is valid for only 2 years and requires active maintenance through ISA exams or recertification.
What is the difference between the CCSE R81.20 and R82 exams?
+
The R82 CCSE exam (156-315.82) is the current version covering features introduced in R82, including AI-powered threat prevention capabilities. The R81.20 exam (156-315.81.20) covers the previous major version and remains available at Pearson VUE until June 2026. Candidates currently studying should target R82, as it will be the only version available after R81.20 retires. Our practice tests cover the core CCSE topics applicable to both versions.
How many free practice tests are available for each Check Point exam?
+
CCSA: 15 tests (5 mixed-set + 10 topic-wise), 300 questions, ~20 minutes per test. CCSE: 12 tests (5 mixed-set + 7 topic-wise), 240 questions, ~27 minutes per test. All 27 tests are completely free — no login or subscription required.
Do Check Point certifications expire?
+
The CCSA has no formal expiry date, though Check Point releases new exam versions with major software releases (R81, R81.20, R82) and candidates may choose to recertify on newer versions. The CCSE is valid for 2 years. You can extend it for one additional year by passing one Check Point Infinity Specialist Accreditation (ISA) exam before expiry, or upgrade to CCSM status by passing two ISA exams.
