Built around the five-domain blueprint
IAPP publishes ranges of scored questions for each domain, not fixed percentages. These practice tests scale the midpoint of those official ranges to a 90-question form, which produces a consistent 20 / 25 / 23 / 10 / 12 split across the five domains.
The questions are original and written against the current Body of Knowledge. The emphasis is application: choosing the best privacy control, separating processing purposes, managing data through its lifecycle and translating privacy requirements into technical decisions.
The live CIPT exam can include multi-select items. IAPP gives no partial credit unless the exact number of correct responses is selected, so every practice test includes 10 clearly marked Select TWO questions scored all-or-nothing.
What one 90-question practice test is built to do
Short quizzes tell you whether you remember a topic. A 150-minute test tells you whether you can keep making good privacy decisions after an hour and a half of close calls.
How it is built
- 90 questions under a 150-minute clock
- Five-domain allocation of 20 / 25 / 23 / 10 / 12
- Difficulty mix of 15 easy, 43 medium and 32 hard questions
- Four answer options on every question
Under the clock
- 80 single-answer questions
- 10 clearly marked Select TWO questions
- Select TWO items are all-or-nothing
- Scenario wording uses BEST and MOST appropriate decisions where the blueprint calls for judgment
What comes back
- A written explanation is attached to every question
- Explanations show why the correct control fits the scenario
- Strong distractors are addressed, not ignored
- Every item is tagged to its CIPT domain and objective
A real question from the practice-test bank
This item comes from Test 10. The useful part is not just knowing C is right. It is seeing why read-only access still breaks the processing boundary.
A clinical system must feed aggregate quality metrics to a corporate reporting platform, but the reporting platform must never query raw clinical records. Which architecture BEST preserves segregation?
- AGive the reporting platform read-only access to raw clinical tables, with the existing retention behavior continuing after the change.
- BShare a common database account and ask report developers to use only aggregate queries, under the current service-to-service access pattern.
- CPublish a one-way sanitized projection containing only approved aggregate metrics, with no reverse query path from reporting into the clinical store.
- DReplicate the complete clinical schema and hide sensitive columns in dashboards.
Why C
A one-way sanitized projection creates a technical boundary in which the reporting purpose receives only its approved outputs.
Why A is tempting
Read-only raw access prevents modification, but the reporting platform can still view and query clinical records it does not need. That fails the segregation requirement in the scenario.
IAPP publishes ranges, so the practice tests scale them to 90 questions
The official Body of Knowledge gives a minimum and maximum for each domain. The practice allocation below keeps the relative emphasis while making every test exactly 90 questions.
| Domain | IAPP exam range | Questions in each practice test | Practice share |
|---|---|---|---|
| I. The Privacy Technologist’s Role in the Context of the Organization | 15–19 | 20 | 22.2% |
| II. Data Collection, Use, Dissemination and Destruction | 19–23 | 25 | 27.8% |
| III. Privacy Risk Management | 17–21 | 23 | 25.6% |
| IV. Privacy by Design | 7–9 | 10 | 11.1% |
| V. Privacy Engineering and Privacy Governance | 9–11 | 12 | 13.3% |
All 10 IAPP CIPT full-length practice tests
Each test is complete on its own: 90 questions, 150 minutes, the same five-domain allocation and the same single-answer / Select TWO structure.
About the CIPT exam and these practice tests
The CIPT exam
How many questions are on the IAPP CIPT exam?
There are 90 multiple-choice questions and the allotted time is 2.5 hours, with a 15-minute break.
What score do you need to pass CIPT?
IAPP reports results on a 100–500 scale. The passing score is 300. IAPP also states that 300 does not mean 60% correct.
Does the CIPT exam include multi-select questions?
It can. IAPP says multi-select questions clearly state how many responses to choose, and the exact number of correct responses must be selected to receive credit. There is no partial credit.
Which CIPT Body of Knowledge is current?
Version 4.0.0, approved in March 2025 and effective from 1 September 2025. It reorganized CIPT into five domains.
How much does the CIPT exam cost?
The current IAPP store price is $550 USD. The exam can be taken at a Pearson VUE test center or remotely through OnVUE.
These practice tests
How many questions are in each practice test?
Each test contains 90 questions and runs for 150 minutes.
How are single-answer and Select TWO questions split?
Each test has 80 single-answer questions and 10 Select TWO questions. The Select TWO items are clearly labeled and use all-or-nothing scoring.
Do the questions include explanations?
Yes. Every question in the bank includes a written explanation, with the reasoning for the correct answer and attention to plausible distractors.
How are the five domains distributed?
Every 90-question practice test uses the same 20 / 25 / 23 / 10 / 12 allocation. That distribution scales the midpoint of IAPP's published domain ranges to a fixed 90-question practice form.
Which pack is the best value?
The pack of 10 is the best value: 900 questions across ten full-length tests for $8.99₹399£6.99€8.49.
Ten full-length CIPT practice tests. 900 questions.
$8.99₹399£6.99€8.49
Use the first test to find the weak domain. Use the later ones to see whether the fix still holds when the clock runs for the full 150 minutes.
