Written to the current objectives

The practice set is mapped to the current GSEC objective list, from Access Control & Password Management through Wireless Network Security. That includes cryptography, incident response, Linux and Windows security, networking, SIEM, vulnerability assessment, cloud security and the newer AI essentials material.

The real GSEC exam also uses CyberLive, where candidates work inside virtual machines. These practice tests are multiple-choice only. Use them for knowledge, scenario judgment and pacing, then drill the hands-on work separately.

The 72% pass mark applies to GSEC exam versions released on or after 6 April 2026.
Inside a test

Built for a full 106-question run

GSEC gives you more time than a one-minute-per-question exam, but open-book does not mean slow. The useful practice is deciding when you know the answer and when a reference lookup is actually worth the time.

How it is built

  • 106 questions in each full-length test
  • Four answer choices per question
  • Current GSEC objective mapping
  • Easy, medium and hard items
  • Original questions, not live exam content

How to sit it

  • Block a full four-hour window when possible
  • Use the same hardcopy references you plan to index
  • Do not look up every answer just because the exam is open book
  • Mark slow topics for a second study pass
  • Use 72% as the current exam benchmark

What you learn

  • Every question includes a written explanation
  • Wrong answers are built to test nearby concepts
  • Objective labels show where the question belongs
  • Repeated full tests reveal weak areas and pacing problems
  • CyberLive skills still need separate hands-on practice

A question from the GSEC practice-test bank

The explanation matters because the distractor usually sits close to the right concept. That is where review turns into something you can use on the next test.

Cryptography ApplicationEasySingle answer

A public web server certificate will expire tomorrow, and the private key has not been compromised. Which action BEST maintains trusted service continuity?

  • AObtain and install a renewed certificate before the current certificate expires.
  • BPublish the existing private key so clients can continue trusting it.
  • CDisable certificate validation on clients after the expiration time.
  • DReplace the trusted CA with a self-signed certificate on every browser.

Why A

A certificate that has passed its validity period will fail normal trust checks even when its private key has not been compromised. Renewing and installing the certificate before expiration preserves service continuity, whereas disabling certificate validation would remove an important trust control.

Objective coverage

The current GSEC objectives covered by the set

GIAC publishes objective statements rather than percentage domain weights for GSEC. The practice-test bank is organized around those current objectives instead of inventing weights that GIAC does not publish.
