What ISACA sets on the current CISA exam

Written from an auditor's point of view

CISA is not a security-engineering exam with an audit label stuck on top. The current outline asks whether you can evaluate evidence, judge risk and keep the line between management ownership and auditor responsibility clear.

The question bank is built the same way. A technically possible answer can still lose because it comes too early, uses weak evidence, solves the symptom instead of the control objective, or asks the auditor to make a management decision.

Every practice test uses the current 18% / 18% / 12% / 26% / 26% distribution. That works out to 27, 27, 18, 39 and 39 questions in a 150-question set.

Inside a test

Four hours changes the way a CISA question feels

A short quiz can tell you whether you know a topic. A 150-question test tells you whether you can keep choosing the best audit action after two and a half hours of close calls.

How it's built

  • 150 questions with four options each
  • One best answer on every question
  • Five domains at 27 / 27 / 18 / 39 / 39
  • 30 easy, 68 medium and 52 hard questions
  • Scenario-led audit, risk and governance decisions

Under the clock

  • 240 minutes for the full set
  • About 96 seconds per question on average
  • BEST, MOST, FIRST and PRIMARY wording used where it matters
  • No choose-TWO questions in this bank
  • No negative marking for an incorrect answer

What you learn after

  • An explanation is stored with every question
  • The reasoning ties back to risk, evidence or control objectives
  • Strong distractors are explained when the distinction matters
  • Auditor responsibility is kept separate from management action
  • The ten sets are independently written rather than paraphrased copies

The hard part is deciding what the auditor should do first

CISA questions often give you several actions that could be reasonable. Sequence, evidence and ownership decide which one is best.

Domain 1 · Auditing processSingle answerFIRST

During an audit of privileged access, an IS auditor finds three terminated administrators whose accounts remained active for several days after HR recorded their departure. Quarterly access reviews were completed on schedule. What should the auditor do FIRST?

  • ARecommend changing the quarterly access review to a monthly review
  • BDetermine whether termination events are consistently reaching the access-removal process and test a broader sample
  • CDirect the security administrator to disable every privileged account immediately
  • DConclude that the quarterly review control is ineffective based on the three exceptions

Why B

The exceptions show a possible breakdown in the termination process, but three records do not yet establish its extent or root cause. The auditor should first gather enough evidence to determine whether the issue is isolated or systemic. A monthly review may be a useful later recommendation, but it does not explain why HR terminations failed to trigger timely access removal.

Current CISA blueprint

Every practice test follows the same five-domain weighting

Domains 4 and 5 together make up more than half the exam. Each full-length test keeps that weighting fixed, so your test-to-test comparison is useful.

Questions

About the CISA exam and these practice tests

The CISA exam

How many questions are on the CISA exam?

The CISA exam has 150 multiple-choice questions and a four-hour, 240-minute time limit.

What score do you need to pass CISA?

ISACA reports CISA scores on a 200–800 scale. A scaled score of 450 or higher is the passing standard. It is not a percentage, and ISACA does not publish a raw-score conversion.

What domains are on the current CISA exam?

The current CISA outline has five domains: Information System Auditing Process 18%, Governance and Management of IT 18%, Information Systems Acquisition, Development and Implementation 12%, Information Systems Operations and Business Resilience 26%, and Protection of Information Assets 26%.

How much does the CISA exam cost?

Current ISACA exam registration is US$575 for members and US$760 for non-members.

Can I take the CISA exam before I have the work experience?

Yes. The exam is open before you meet the certification experience requirement. To earn the CISA certification, you need five years of qualifying professional experience, with waivers available for up to three years, and you must apply within five years of passing the exam.

What is the CISA retake policy?

ISACA allows four attempts within a rolling 12-month period. After a first failed attempt, the wait is 30 days. After the second and third failed attempts, the wait is 90 days each, and the full registration fee applies to every attempt.

How do you maintain CISA after certification?

CISA holders currently report at least 20 CPE hours each year and 120 CPE hours over a three-year reporting period, pay the annual maintenance fee, and follow ISACA's professional and auditing standards.

These practice tests

How closely do these practice tests match the CISA format?

Each test contains 150 single-answer questions on a 240-minute clock. The domain allocation is fixed at 27 / 27 / 18 / 39 / 39, which maps to the current 18% / 18% / 12% / 26% / 26% CISA outline.

Do these tests use choose-TWO or multiple-answer questions?

No. Every question has four options and one best answer, matching the single-best-answer model used throughout this CISA practice bank.

What kind of questions are in the practice tests?

The bank is built around auditor decisions: what to verify first, what evidence is sufficient, which risk matters most, who owns a decision, and which recommendation best protects the business objective. It is not written like a security-engineer command quiz.

Do the questions include explanations?

Yes. Every question carries a concise explanation that states why the keyed answer is best and, where it helps, why the strongest distractor is less appropriate.

Are all ten tests built to the same blueprint?

Yes. Every test uses the same 150-question domain allocation and the same 30 easy / 68 medium / 52 hard difficulty matrix. The questions themselves are independently written across the ten-test series.

Where do the questions come from?

They are original practice questions written to the current CISA Exam Content Outline. The bank does not reproduce live, secure, recalled, or dumped ISACA exam items.

How much are the CISA practice tests?

One test is $4.49₹159£3.69€4.29. Five tests are $9.99₹359£7.99€9.49. The complete ten-test pack is $14.99₹499£11.99€13.99.
