Written to the current FortiOS 7.6.0 scope
The live exam is operational. Fortinet says it tests FortiGate configuration, day-to-day administration, troubleshooting, configuration extracts, and operational scenarios. These practice tests follow that same subject scope rather than turning FortiOS into an acronym quiz.
The five published areas are deployment and system configuration; firewall policies and authentication; content inspection; routing; and VPNs. Content inspection carries the largest official range at 25–30%.
Fortinet lists NSE 4 - FortiOS 8.0 Administrator for release in mid-September 2026. The 7.6 exam is still marked available today, so this page stays focused on candidates booking the 7.6 version.
Built for FortiGate decisions under a clock
The useful questions are the ones where policy, route, NAT, authentication, inspection, or VPN state all look plausible. You have to decide which layer actually explains the symptom.
How it's built
- 52 questions in 80 minutes
- 12 deployment and system questions
- 12 firewall policy and authentication questions
- 14 content-inspection questions
- 7 routing and 7 VPN questions
- Exactly four Select TWO questions in each set
What the questions do
- Use FortiOS 7.6.0 terminology
- Lean on administrator scenarios rather than definitions
- Test SNAT versus DNAT, flow versus proxy inspection, FSSO, HA, SD-WAN, IPsec, and troubleshooting
- Use plausible distractors from the same FortiGate problem family
- Keep live exam content out of the bank
What comes back
- A percentage score for the practice attempt
- A 75% internal readiness benchmark
- Question review with the correct answer
- An explanation for every item in the bank
- Repeatable practice across ten separate sets
The distractor should look reasonable
If three answers are obviously wrong, the item isn't doing much work. This question comes from one of the FortiOS 7.6 sets.
A BYOD network cannot install the FortiGate inspection CA on unmanaged devices. The administrator only needs certificate and hostname-level visibility for HTTPS policy decisions and does not need to inspect encrypted page content. Which inspection approach is BEST?
- ADisable SSL inspection and rely on antivirus to read the encrypted payload
- BUse certificate inspection instead of deep inspection on those BYOD devices
- CUse an IPsec aggregate to expose the HTTPS application content
- DUse full deep inspection and ignore all certificate warnings on the endpoints
Why B
Certificate inspection can evaluate certificate and connection metadata without decrypting and re-signing the full application payload. That matches the requirement: hostname-level policy decisions without installing a trusted inspection CA on unmanaged endpoints.
Why D is tempting
Deep inspection gives more visibility, so it sounds stronger. It is the wrong fit here because unmanaged endpoints cannot trust the FortiGate signing CA, which is exactly why the scenario rules it out. Antivirus cannot read an encrypted payload by itself, and IPsec aggregation solves a different problem.
Official topic ranges, mapped into every 52-question test
Fortinet publishes ranges rather than fixed percentages. Each practice set uses a fixed count inside those ranges so scores stay comparable from one test to the next.
| Exam topic area | Official range | Questions per practice test | Practice share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deployment and system configuration | 20–25% | 12 | 23.1% |
| Firewall policies and authentication | 20–25% | 12 | 23.1% |
| Content inspection | 25–30% | 14 | 26.9% |
| Routing | 10–15% | 7 | 13.5% |
| VPNs | 10–15% | 7 | 13.5% |
Content inspection gets 14 questions in every set. The other four areas stay inside Fortinet's published ranges without changing from paper to paper.
All 10 FortiOS 7.6 Administrator practice tests
Each test is complete on its own: 52 questions, 80 minutes, the same five-area blueprint, and the same single-test price.
About the Fortinet exam, and about these practice tests
The certification exam
How many questions are on the Fortinet NSE 4 - FortiOS 7.6 Administrator exam?
Fortinet currently lists 50–55 questions with 80–90 minutes allowed. The tested product version is FortiOS 7.6.0.
What score do I need to pass?
Fortinet reports the certification exam as pass or fail and does not publish a numeric passing percentage. The score report also shows topic-level performance for reference.
What question types does Fortinet use?
Fortinet's NSE exams use single-selection and multiple-selection multiple-choice questions. A multiple-selection item must be completely correct for credit; there is no partial credit and no deduction for an incorrect answer.
How much does the NSE 4 exam cost in September 2026?
The current Fortinet fee for NSE 4–6 exams is $200 USD before tax. Fortinet's announced November 2026 fee change affects NSE 7, not NSE 4.
How long is the NSE 4 FortiOS certification active?
Two years from the exam date. Fortinet's current NSE 4 FortiOS page lists renewal routes including the next version of the NSE 4 FortiOS exam and eligible recertification options.
If I fail, when can I retake the exam?
You must wait 15 consecutive days after a failed Pearson VUE proctored NSE exam before taking it again. Once you pass an exam, Pearson VUE blocks you from retaking that same passed exam.
What experience does Fortinet recommend?
Fortinet lists 1–2 years of networking experience, 0–1 year of network-security experience, and at least six months of hands-on FortiGate experience.
Is FortiOS 7.6 still the current exam?
Yes. Fortinet's current 7.6 exam page marks it available. Fortinet's release notice lists NSE 4 - FortiOS 8.0 Administrator for mid-September 2026, so candidates should book the version they have prepared for.
These practice tests
How closely do these tests follow the Fortinet blueprint?
Each 52-question set uses 12 deployment and system questions, 12 firewall-policy and authentication questions, 14 content-inspection questions, 7 routing questions, and 7 VPN questions. Those fixed counts sit inside Fortinet's published percentage ranges.
Do the practice tests include multiple-selection questions?
Yes. Each set contains four Select TWO questions. That count is a practice-design choice; Fortinet does not publish the exact response-format mix used in a live exam.
What does the 75% benchmark mean?
It is this site's internal practice-readiness benchmark. It is not Fortinet's passing score, because Fortinet does not publish a numeric passing percentage for this exam.
Where do the questions come from?
The questions are original and written against the FortiOS 7.6.0 objectives. They focus on configuration and troubleshooting decisions instead of reproducing live exam content.
Are the ten tests intentionally different in difficulty?
No. The same domain counts and difficulty blueprint are used across the set so movement in your results is easier to interpret.
Is this a subscription?
No. Each test or pack is a one-time purchase.
